How should I prepare for the LAT?Preparation strategies include: Reviewing the test structure and practicing with sample questions available on the ACER LAT website. Seeking feedback on practice essays to identify areas for improvement. Attending the LAT Academy's Premium Masterclass Regular practice and familiarisation with the test format can significantly improve performance.
-
What skills are tested in the LAT?The LAT assesses your ability to: Think critically and independently Develop and present persuasive arguments Analyse and evaluate information Communicate ideas clearly and logically It's important to note that the LAT does not test specific legal knowledge. Instead, it focuses on evaluating your reasoning and writing skills.
-
What is the LAT and why is it required? The Law Admission Test (LAT) is an entry requirement for undergraduate law degrees at UNSW Sydney. The LAT test is a written assessment developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) in collaboration with UNSW. It evaluates skills such as critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and the ability to express ideas clearly - key competencies for success in law studies. All domestic applicants aiming to enrol in an undergraduate Bachelor of Laws double degree at UNSW Sydney are required to sit the LAT.
-
When is the LAT held, and how do I register? For 2025, the LAT is scheduled for Tuesday, 30 September 2025. Key registration dates are: Registrations open: 9:00 AM AEST, Monday, 12 May 2025 Standard registrations close: 5:00 PM AEST, Monday, 11 August 2025 Late registrations close: 5:00 PM AEST, Monday, 8 September 2025 You can register online through the official ACER LAT website: https://lat.acer.edu.au/

What if I don't perform well in the LAT?Your LAT score is considered alongside your academic results (such as ATAR or equivalent) in the selection process for UNSW Law programs. If your LAT performance isn't as strong as desired, you might consider alternative pathways: Re-sitting the LAT: You can take the LAT again in subsequent years; UNSW will consider your highest score. Internal Program Transfer: If you're already enrolled in another program at UNSW, you may apply for an internal transfer to Law, subject to meeting specific academic requirements. Other Institutions: Exploring law programs at other universities that may have different admission criteria. It's advisable to consult with academic advisors to discuss the best course of action based on your individual circumstances.
-
How many students are in the class? We maintain small class sizes for a more personalised and focused learning experience. Each class typically consists of approximately 10 students.
-
What is your student success rate?We have a relatively high student success rate. This is a testament to our comprehensive and effective approach to LAT preparation, as well as the dedication and hard work of our students. We strive to help every student reach their maximum potential and achieve their law school aspirations.
-
Where is the class held? Our classes are conveniently held online through the widely-used and reliable platform, Zoom. This enables us to reach students from all locations and provide a comfortable learning environment from your home.
-
Should I attend a class closer to the Law Admission Test examination date? No, you shouldn’t. Preparing for the Law Admission Test (LAT) requires time to build and refine critical thinking and persuasive writing skills—skills that cannot be developed overnight. Attending a class closer to the exam date often leaves little time to absorb the material, practice effectively, and improve. Instead, starting your preparation early allows you to learn at a steady pace, identify and address your weaknesses, and practice extensively under realistic conditions. LAT Academy’s programs are designed to give you the time and guidance needed to approach the exam with confidence. Early preparation is key to success!
-
What is the process of securing my spot for the LAT Academy Premium Masterclass?Securing your spot for the LAT Academy Premium Masterclass involves a mandatory 15-minute screening call. During this call, we'll have a chat about you - your interests, reasons for pursuing law, current skill set, and your existing preparation for the LAT. This helps us understand your needs better and ensures that our Masterclass is a good fit for you.
-
How can I prepare for the screening call?To prepare for the screening call, take some time to think about your motivations for pursuing law, the skills you currently have that will aid in your LAT preparation, and the specific areas you're hoping to improve through our Masterclass. This conversation is also a great opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have about the program, so feel free to jot down any queries in advance.
-
When will I find out if I am a successful candidate? You will be informed during the call itself. We are able to assess your suitability for our program during our conversation and we will let you know immediately. This allows us to give you real-time feedback and provide clarity on the next steps.
-
What questions will you ask? We'll ask about your understanding of the LAT, your previous experiences with test preparation, and what you hope to gain from our program. The discussion will be fairly informal and aimed at understanding your unique needs.

What are your requirements for a successful candidate? We believe all students can improve and succeed with the right guidance. We look for students who are committed, open-minded, and ready to engage fully in the learning process. While grades can provide some indication of academic abilities, they are not the sole determinant for LAT success. We value your motivation and dedication to learning more than your past grades.
-
What is the screening call about? The screening call is an opportunity for us to understand your current preparedness for the LAT and discuss how our Premium Masterclass can assist you in your journey. It is not an interview instead a conversation where we'll ask you about your academic background, your aspirations to study law, and your overall readiness for the LAT.
